How to Make a Better Starburst Pipe

Welcome to our step-by-step guide on how to make a Starburst Pipe. Perhaps you’ve already tried the apple pipe, and you’re looking for something different. Follow these steps to make a fun edible bowl.

**Important**– It has come to my attention that smoking sugar has increased risk of lung-related health problems. I did not experience any problems after trying this out, however, I no longer recommend making starburst pipes. I will leave this article intact for transparency.

Step 1: Unwrap the Starburst. You may want to hold on the a few of the wrappers. They make your candy pipe easier to hold, and keeps your hands from getting sticky.

Step 2: Mold your pipe. The easy way to this is to simply stack them together and squish them until they are adequately bonded together. Another methods is to completely mix all the starburst together into one large mass. From there you can mold the candy into whatever shape pipe you would like.

Step 3: Use a skewer (or something like it) to create a hold through the shaft of your pipe. You may want to line up the skewer on the outside of the pipe so you know exactly how deep the hole should be.

Step 4: Maneuver the skewer around at an angle to create a bowl.

Step 5: (optional) At this point you may want to put it in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes. It may have gotten too soft as you were manipulating it.

Step 6: You’re ready to smoke your new Starburst pipe. Consider holding it with the wrapper so you don’t get sticky. Don’t forget to puff puff pass.

Bonus: Chocolate Bar Pipe

After trying starburst for pipe making, I wanted to see how far I could go with the candy pipe. I picked up a 3 Musketeers bar, and decided to give it a shot. I knew this wasn’t going to be an ideal pipe, but I wanted to see if it would at least work. I made the pipe using pretty much the same method shown above.

How did it work? Actually, it worked better than I had anticipated. Don’t get me wrong – my hands and lips got covered in chocolate, but I was able to burn a decent size bowl out of it before it stopped hitting. I wouldn’t recommend this as a go-to pipe solution, but if it’s all you got then it will work.

Go on! Give it a try, and let me know how it worked out in the comments.

If i eat the pipe would the resin in side get me high?

    • Mary Jane says:

      Hey Diego.
No, unfortunately it won’t. In order to get high off eating thc you have to bond it to some kind of fat such as butter, oil, milk, etc. I hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by!

Tried this with my girlfriend… i guess the biggest point of it is to use it in case you don’t have a piece laying around; since you don’t really taste it till you take a bite outta it… just smoke and eat some starbursts, lol.

    • Mary Jane says:

lol! You’re probably right. It’s really more of a novelty than anything. If nothing else, break one of these out and it’s bound to start a conversation.

  • Dawson says:

Can you use the wrappers. I heard that they are the same as slow burning paper and I have some and they feel the same and plus I heard that it also adds flavor. Is this true can I actually use it like that.

    • Mary Jane says:

I personally wouldn’t use the wrappers. There’s ink, plus it seems like some sort of protective film on the inside. I don’t know for fact, but I would wager smoking starburst wrappers is pretty toxic.

  • Michelle says:

While creative, my question is this, how safe is it to be smoking out of Starburst?

    • Mary Jane says:

This is an excellent question and the answer is debatable. Of course, smoking anything is unhealthy for your respiratory system, but there may be some additional risks associated with smoking sugar. I wouldn’t make a habit of it, but I don’t think anyone will be harmed for trying it out (I know I certainly didn’t have any problems after smoking it). This is a good poing though and one I should have included in the article. I’m going to go back and add a warning at the top. Thanks so much for your comment. Cheers!
